ENTIMA

ENTIMA is an application to compute the order-zero and the conditional entropy of a wavelet-transformed image. It incorporates four different types of wavelet filters (irreversible 9/7, reversible 5/3, and reversible and irreversible Haar), more than 10 different types of context models, and a color transform. The program permits the manipulation of gray-scale images, color images, or images with multiple components. An hybrid transform strategy that carries out first a spectral transform and then a spatial transform is also available. The results can be printed in different forms, including the evaluation for the whole image or by each wavelet subband and component.

The main asset of ENTIMA is that it establishes the compression limits of wavelet-based compression schemes, which helps to unveil the context models that are best suited for different types of images or transforms. The sourcecode is structured in easy-to-understand modules. We invite others to test new transform strategies and context models employing this software.

This application employs some of the libraries developed for the BOI codec. ENTIMA is also provided under the BOI license, which permits its private use freely but it does not allow commercial use or re-distribution.
